1888 Democratic National Convention
The 1888 Democratic National Convention was a
nominating conventionheld June 5 to 7, 1888, in the St. Louis Exposition and Music Hallin St. Louis, Missouri. The convention re-nominated incumbent Grover Clevelandfor President (the first time an incumbent had been given this honor since Martin Van Burenin 1840) and Allen G. Thurmanfor Vice President. Stephen M. Whiteserved as temporary chairman and Patrick A. Collins served as the convention's permanent president. Cleveland was unanimously nominated. For Vice President, Thurman had 690 votes, Isaac P. Grayhad 105 and John C. Blackhad 25. Patrick Collins (mayor)was president of the body.
