Purok (English: "
Zone") is the main division of the barangayin the Philippines(Note that the term barangayis referred to the villageof Western countries). Unlike sitios, it covers the overall part of a certain barangay. Usually, seven puroks that were administered by individual councilors and SKcouncilors, a political officer next to the BarangayCaptain, divided the area of the whole barangaywhich is mostly found in rural communities. Barangayswhich are located in Poblacionareas are instead divided into several blocks and streets which numbers could be lower or higher than seven although the numbers of councilors and SKcouncilors remain the same of those in the rural places.
