Act provocateur international

Act Provocateur International is the resident theatre company at the Lion & Unicorn in Kentish Town. [ [ Camden Council: Theatres in Camden ] ] A Fringe theatre, most productions run between two and four weeks. The company has taken productions to various theatre festivals around the world, including eleven visits to the Edinburgh Fringe. Content varies between classic and new writing. 2007 saw the company run a festival of one-person shows.


Act Provocateur was founded in 2001 by Victor Sobchak (Artistic Director), Iaione Perez (Principle Actor) and Andy McQuade (Principle Actor).

Best known for hard-hitting in-yer-face style of theatre and for promoting new writing.

Iaione Perez is now based in Spain working on her film career.

[] API also host major theatre festival in London for Solo Performers.

API disbanded in June 2008.

McQuade set up own theatre company with William Whitehurst, [] Second Skin Theatre, producing original writing and slated to produce an original production of the mythical tale of 'Rasputin'.

Victor Sobchak remains Artistic Director of revamped 'Lion and Unicorn Theatre'.

October 2008. George Sallis (a former estate agent) launches behind-the-scenes takeover of The Lion and Unicorn with a view to setting up an amateur theatre company backed by an unknown and unspecified consortium of business men. A Facebook campaign has been launched by current and past actors at the Lion and Unicorn, outraged at what they see as a clear case of big money over art.
