Iodine 131-metaiodobenzylguanidine

Iodine 131-metaiodobenzylguanidine (abbreviated as 131I-MIBG) is a radioiodinated synthetic analogue of the neurotransmitter norepinephrine. Meta-iodobenzylguanidine localizes to adrenergic tissue and, in radioiodinated forms, may be used to image or eradicate tumor cells that take up and metabolize norepinephrine. It is used in imaging tests, and is being studied in the treatment of cancer. It is a type of radiopharmaceutical.
