Ghetto grew up listening to hip hop, jazz, classical and gospel music. According to an interview in 2006, he acquired the nickname Ghetto because as a youth he was mischievous and his actions were classed as "ghetto". He spent two years in prison for robberies and several car offences.

Ghetto was a member of grime collective NASTY Crew, however he left, saying that things had gone "pear shaped" due to the number of people in the group "mainly Marcus "ayia nappa" Nasty". [ [ Hyperfrank - Grime is ALIVE ] ]

"Ghetto Gospel"

In 2007 Ghetto released his second, pre-album mixtape "Ghetto Gospel". The mixtape was a departure from his previous release, "2000 & Life", being more mellow and featuring tracks about subjects such as girlfriends and his mother. In interviews, he has stated that the mixtape's calmer tone is to "prove people wrong", as he does not want to be typecast as an aggressive rapper. [ [ Ghetto Delivers His Gospel: Ghetto News on RWD Magazine ] ] He also claims that being around his family had a calming influence on him, he also states that he's maturing and wanted to make music that his father could appreciate.

The album is titled "Ghetto Gospel" to demonstrate that Ghetto has put his soul into creating it.

On 27 October 2007 Ghetto performed with Kano at the BBC Electric Proms, [ [ BBC ELECTRIC PROMS: Kano + Ghetto at Jazz Café - Rock, pop & dance - Music - Time Out London ] ] performing alongside a violinist. [ [ BBC - Electric Proms 2007 - Ghetto ] ]

On March 10, Ghetto released his third, eagerly anticipated mixtape : Freedom Of Speech. It is predominantly a solo mixtape, and features no other producers aside Lewi White and Smasher (The pair responsible for "Back in the Day", a big club hit in 2007). However, the mixtape still boasts vast different styles of MC'ing.

Freedom Of Speech

Ghetto then released his third mixtape entitled Freedom Of Speech, which had collaborations with Lewi White Smasher and sparkey, griminal, brutal, devlin Ghetto stated that the mixtape is more akin to "2000 & Life" than "Ghetto Gospel".

Future Projects

Ghetto is planning a "2000 & Life Vol. 2" mixtape which he says is going to be a "Christmas special". He plans to use this mixtape to collaborate with a wider range of other artists than on his previous releases.
