"Broken April" is a novel by award winning Albanian author Ismail Kadare. Published in 1978, the book explores one of Kadare's recurring themes; how the past affects the present.cite web|url=http://www.kirjasto.sci.fi/kadare.htm|title=Ismail Kadare|publisher=Books and Writers|accessdate=2007-10-06]

The story tells of Gjorg Berisha, a 26 year old Albanian man living on the high plateau. As a result of this killing, his own death is sealed; he is to be killed by a member of the opposing family.

The novel was translated into English by New Amsterdam Books and Saqi Books, and was subsequently published in Great Britain by Saqi Books in 1990. The English translation of "Broken April" was the recipient of the Man Booker International Prize in 2005, amongst numerous other accolades.
