"Six Months in a Leaky Boat" is a single from New Zealand art rock group Split Enz's album "Time and Tide". It was written by Tim Finn and Split Enz and released as a single in 1982. Despite rumours that the song was a comment on the 1982 Falklands War, it was not. The song was written and recorded a month "before" the invasion; the title metaphor refers to lead singer Tim Finn's nervous breakdown. [http://www.zgeek.com/forum/showthread.php?t=47635] However, the song was "discouraged from airplay" in Britain during the Falklands crisis by the BBC for reasons of morale - widely reported as having been banned in the Australasian media. [ [http://www.rocklistmusic.co.uk/banned.html Banned List ] ] [ [http://www.dummocrats.com/archives/000809.php Dummocrats: Banned By The BBC ] ] It is sometimes seen by New Zealanders as a patriotic song Fact|date=May 2008, primarily because of the lyrics 'Aotearoa, rugged individual / Glisten like a pearl / At the bottom of the world'.
