RockCorps is a production company with a pro-social twist. RockCorps uses the call to action of: “Give 4 Hours, Get 1 Ticket. ”

Based in New York and Los Angeles, the company encourages community involvement among youth and young adults through the power of music. People who contribute four hours of community service at one of the company’s volunteer events earn a ticket to one of its exclusive concert events. Parker-McClain, D. “The Volunteer Ticket”, Pollstar, July 9, 2007] The volunteer events are all done in partnership with local non-profit organizations. Non-Profit partners in various cities have included: Partnerships for Parks, Social Change Media, Watts Boys and Girls Club, Heal the Bay, Big Kidz and Reynoldstown Revitalization Corporation.

RockCorps’ funding comes from partnering with like-minded brands who are seeking to create innovative marketing programs Nagy, E. “People Have the Power”, Billboard, September 8, 2007] that inspire social change. Its first nationwide effort was launched in 2005 with partner Boost Mobile . The movement is called Boost Mobile RockCorps (BMRC) and it demonstrates to young people ways in which they can proactively contribute to their neighborhoods and positively transform society without being wealthy or famous.

RockCorps is expanding to the UK in 2008, announcing in April its partnership with mobile operator Orange. The Orange RockCorps program will kickoff in London in late summer/early autumn of 2008. The event will be marketed via terrestrial/digital tv, radio, online and outdoor. Kemp, E. “Orange to offer gig tickets for charity work”, Marketing, April 29, 2008]

In 2006, BMRC released a study that highlights the impact of the program on today’s young people. Findings suggest close to 80% of BMRC volunteers are likely to volunteer again in the future - without a concert ticket.Andrews, A. “Rock Corps Rocks the Kodak Theater”, Los Angeles Wave, April 12, 2007] An extension of the program, RockStar, was launched in September 2007. Anyone who does four hours of volunteer work is eligible to participate.

RockCorps was founded by: Stephen Greene (CEO), Grady Lee (COO), movie and video director Chris Robinson, Haley Moffett, Paul Hunter, Toby Garrett and Noel Eisenberg.

RockCorps sprang from the work of the Greenbucks FoundationHarris, M. “Hard work is music to their ears”, Baltimore Sun, June 25, 2007] . Active in the mid- ‘90s, Greenbucks staged its initial free concerts in Telluride and encouraged local residents to clean up the outdoor concert space in order to earn a ticket.

In 2005, the company partnered with Boost Mobile , a wireless telecommunications brand dedicated to boosting the lives of today’s youth. In its first year, the Boost Mobile RockCorps movement touched six U.S. cities and had 6,000 volunteers who generated 24,000 hours of service. In 2007, Boost Mobile RockCorps expanded the program to 11 cities and over 15,000 youth.
