Hawkers is the name given to road-side vendors selling merchandise.
Organizations of Indian hawkers include the
Bengal Hawkers Associationand the Calcutta Hawkers' Men Union.
Chinaand Hong Kong, hawkers have historically been a main supplier of street food. Some of the items sold include fishball, beefball, bugzaigo, roasted chestnuts and stinky tofu. Many of the stalls have been setup with little to no government monitoring. Due to health concerns and other liability problems, the food culture has been seriously reduced in Hong Kong.
