Hartsville is a town in Haw Creek and Clifty townships, Bartholomew County,
Indiana, United States. The population was 376 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Columbus, Indiana metropolitan statistical area.
Hartsville is located at coor dms|39|16|1|N|85|41|55|W|city (39.267039, -85.698689)GR|1.
According to the
United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.3 square miles (0.9 km²), all of it land.
As of the
censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 376 people, 137 households, and 103 families residing in the town. The population densitywas 1,131.3 people per square mile (439.9/km²). There were 146 housing units at an average density of 439.3/sq mi (170.8/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98.67% White, 0.53% Native American, 0.27% Pacific Islander, 0.27% from other races, and 0.27% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.86% of the population.
There were 137 households out of which 35.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.6% were married couples living together, 7.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.1% were non-families. 19.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.74 and the average family size was 3.07.
In the town the population was spread out with 29.8% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 29.8% from 25 to 44, 19.7% from 45 to 64, and 13.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 104.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 106.3 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $50,000, and the median income for a family was $54,375. Males had a median income of $32,500 versus $22,143 for females. The
