The Children's Museum of Richmond began in 1977 as the Richmond Children’s Museum in the Navy Hill School building in downtown Richmond, Virginia. In 2000, the museum moved to its current location on Broad Street in Richmond. In 2010 The Children's Museum of Richmond became the first in the country to open a satellite location, CMoR Short Pump, located in the West End of Richmond.Page text.[1]

Highlights of CMoR Central include:

  • A newly renovated Living Tree House which features live turtles, frogs, and mice, which opened in September 2010.
  • Little Farm, a special area for the smallests guests, age 3 and under, to explore![2]
  • Town Square, an area designed to inspire the imagination complete with a bank, grocery store, hospital, tv studio, school house, and car garage.
  • An open Art Studio where children can come and create whatever they can imagine!

Highlights of CMoR Short Pump include:

  • A 15,000-square-foot (1,400 m2) space full of Storybook themed exhibits for children!
  • A 1,000-square-foot (93 m2) Art Studio
  • An indoor Safari Train
  • A giant pirate ship and treasure island for children to climb and dig for loot!
  • A castle for all of the princes and princesses to enjoy!

Mission: The Children's Museum of Richmond, a not-for-profit organization, exists to create innovative learning experiences for all children and those who support them that inspire the next generation of creative problem solvers.

Vision: The Children's Museum of Richmond will foster a community that recognizes and appreciates that children grow and learn through play.

Values: We value learning. •Children: We have respect for all children and their amazing abilities. We are passionate about the process of learning and the importance of play. We want to inspire creativity, curiosity and exploration. •Staff: We surround ourselves with trustworthy people who thrive on a team and share our energy, passion, creativity, and optimism. We learn by listening to children, families, teachers and others who support them. •Community: We seek partnerships and collaborations that benefit young children. We celebrate our community’s diversity and offer a safe place for all children to interact, play and learn.
