New York Film Academy - Film School

New York Film Academy (more commonly known as NYFA) is a privately-owned film school best known for its intensive short term filmmaking courses.

History

The school was founded in 1992 by Broadway and film producer Jerry Sherlock. Originally located at Robert De Niro's Tribeca Film Center, it moved to the former Democratic Convention Center at Union Square in 1994. This building was also the last physical location of the famous New York political machine Tammany Hall.

Programs

The school offers filmmaking courses for beginners and graduate students throughout the year, adding summer short-term programs elsewhere, including workshops in Harvard University, Princeton University, Florida, Paris and Florence. They also offer workshops in acting for film. Programs are:

Their one-year programs, ranging from directing to screenwriting and from cinematography to film editing, are located in New York, Universal Studios, Los Angeles and Bloomsbury, London.

Famous Alumni

Students that have attended the school include Owen Kline (son of Kevin Kline and Phoebe Cates), Max Spielberg (son of Steven Spielberg), Jack Robbins (son of Tim Robbins), Brett Ratner (director of such films as Rush Hour and X-Men: The Last Stand) and Jane Crawshaw (of Edwards Theatre Co. and Hambledon Productions).
