Thayavong Savang

Prince Thayavong Savang (born April 17 1964) is a surviving member of the now deposed royal family of the Kingdom of Laos. He was born at the Royal Palace, Luang Prabang, Laos. His father is Prince Vong Savang and mother is Princess Mahneelai.

In 1981, he escaped from captivity from Laos with his older brother Crown Prince Soulivong Savang, arriving in France as political refugees.

He is currently exiled and lives in Paris, France, and is active in the political aspirations of restoring a Constitutional Monarchy in Laos, along with his Uncle Prince Sauryavong Savang, the Regent of the Laotian royal family, Crown Prince Soulivong Savang, and Prince Mangkra Souvannaphouma.

In September 1997, he and his brother Crown Prince Soulivong Savang along with their Uncle Prince Sauryavong Savang initiated a Royal Lao Conference in Seattle, United States, over three hundred Lao exiles and representatives of the Hmongs community.

A resolution was established at this meeting between the Lao and Hmongs leaders and the Royal Family and it held the common goal to change "totalitarian regime to a genuine democratic system", and "the reunification of the Lao people".
