Kahuta Tehsil (Urdu: تحصیل کہوٹہ ) is one of the seven Tehsils (subdivisions) of Rawalpindi District in the Punjab province of Pakistan. The neighbouring Tehsil of Kotli Sattian used to be part of Kahuta, but was later created as a separate tehsil.

History

In the 18th century Kahuta along with much of the subcontinent became part of British India, the undivided tehsil is described in the "Imperial Gazetteer of India" as follows:

Administration

The tehsil is administratively divided into 13 Union Councils, two of which form the city of Kahuta, these are: [http://www.rawalpindi.gov.pk - District government of Rawalpindi] ]

Cities

The main city is Kahuta, a small city with lots of surrounding villages. In rural areas there are lots of people who work in agriculture growing crops like wheat. Many people have settled in UAE, USA, Canada, UK. And this is also the main source of income for them, from a business point of view Kahuta is not developed as much as Kallar or Gujar khan.

Demography

According to the 1998 census of Pakistan, Kahuta has a total population of 153,000. The main tribes of the area include, the Kayanis, Sattis, Janjuas and Minhas RajputsFact|date=December 2007.

Notable places

Kahuta is noted for the Kahuta Research Laboratories, Pakistan's main facility for the development of nuclear weapons. Kahuta is a beautiful place, of many mountain ranges, breathtaking views, snow capped mountains, forests, gushing rivers and a cool climate hot in the summer with more rainfall just giving it that coolness, cold winters, different spices of wildlife,different tribes of people living off the land, keeping livestock.
