It is north of highway 65, between Ar'ara and Kfar Qara. Its population of 4,600 (as of 2004) is almost entirely Muslim.
History
In 1596, 'Ara appeared in Ottoman tax registers as being in the Nahiya of Shara of the Liwa of Lajjun. It had a population of 2 Muslim households and paid taxes on wheat, barley, vines, and goats or beehives.[1]
At the time of the 1931 census, Ar'ara had 115 occupied houses and a population of 673 Muslims.[2]
