"Trapped in the Drive-Thru" is a song from "Weird Al" Yankovic's twelfth studio album "Straight Outta Lynwood", which was released on September 26, 2006. This song is a parody of "Trapped in the Closet" by R. Kelly. To date this is Al's longest parody, and his second longest song ever released on a studio album (with the longest being "Albuquerque").

Origin and Writing

Yankovic felt compelled to write this parody because he felt the original was "brilliant and wonderful and ridiculous all at the same time". [cite web|url=http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1541761/20060926/yankovic_weird_al.jhtml|work=MTV.com|title=Track By Track: In Weird Al's Lynwood, Green Day's 'Idiot' Is Canadian|author=Corey Moss|date=2006-09-26|accessdate=2007-03-16] "Trapped in the Drive-Thru" uses the very dramatic structure of the original to tell an extremely banal tale of a couple's attempts to pick up their dinner one night.

Much like how the original was divided into various chapters (As of right now 22) Yankovic's is also, although it only has 3 chapters, and they aren't divided on the CD itself.

Music video

An animated music video was released on MySpace on March 19, 2007. [cite web|url=http://www.weirdal.com/alnewsfeed.shtml|title=Weird Al News|accessdate=2007-03-16|work=Weird Al's official website] The video was created by Doug Bresler, creator of Doogtoons. It was the 9th music video produced for the album "Straight Outta Lynwood".

The video was also featured as Channel Frederator's 100th episode. In June 2008, "Trapped" received the award of Funniest Film of 2007 at the "Channel Frederator Awards".

As of June 2008, "Trapped in the Drive-Thru" is the #1 highest viewed animated short on all of Myspace.com, and has remained in the Top 100 music videos on iTunes since its release.

Notes

*This song was featured by "Rolling Stone" as number seventy-seven in their Best Songs of 2006. [cite web|url=http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/12769472/the_100_best_songs_of_2006/8|title=The 100 Best Songs of the Year|date=2006-12-08|work=Rolling Stone|accessdate=2007-03-16]
*During a part of the song the main character turns on the radio and "Black Dog" by Led Zeppelin began to play. The song is located at 6:25, and was re-recorded by Yankovic's band. Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page is a noted fan of Yankovic's work, but had previously denied permission for Al to perform a Led Zeppelin polka medley on an album.
*During the music video the main character says that his plumber,"moved to Pittsburgh last summer" and a line is drawn from one point to Pittsburgh on a US map. If you look closely, you can see that the starting point is Albuquerque, a reference to Weird Al's famous song Albuquerque.
