Cabell Midland High School is located in Ona, West Virginia. Cabell Midland is a four year high school which serves grades 9 through 12. The school's name is derived from two different sources; "Cabell" for the county in which it is located, and "Midland" for the famous Midland Trail which once laid from Norfolk, Virginia to Los Angeles, California. The majority of the students come from the eastern part of Cabell County, including Milton Middle School and Barboursville Middle School. The school was constructed in 1994 because of the controversial consolidation of Barboursville High School and Milton High School. CMHS total student body population was 1,833 for the 2006-2007 school year. The approximately convert|286000|sqft|m2|sing=on building was designed by Charleston WV architectural firm of Williamson Shriver Architects. The design received an Honor Award for Architectural Excellence from the West Virginia Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA-WV) in 1995. The school's head principle as of the 2007-2008 school year is David Tackett.

CMHS has several sports teams which include football, basketball, cross country, track, baseball, softball, swimming, wrestling, tennis, volleyball, soccer, band, and golf. Coached by Chris Parsons since the school was founded, CMHS has had great success in the state of West Virginia with the track and cross country teams, both of which annually place in the top 5 in the state with several state championships between them. The boy's basketball team won the state tournament in 2002, while the quiz bowl team won the state tournament in 2006, receiving a bid to play in a national tournament. The baseball team won a state championship in 2003, and has been to the state semifinals and finals several times since then. The softball team has won multiple state championships and is recognized as an elite program in the state of West Virginia. The golf team won a state title in 2000. CMHS's intra-county rivalry with Huntington High School is one of the best in the state.

Mascot and school colors

Midland's mascot is the Scarlet Knight, which was chosen via a poll of the students of Milton and Barboursville High Schools, the two that consolidated to form Cabell Midland. The school colors are scarlet and silver.
