Sadie, a black Labrador Retriever, is a 2007 recipient of the Dickin Medal (the animal equivalent of the Victoria Cross). Sadie was awarded the medal for finding a bomb planted underneath sandbags, yards from where a suicide car bombing had earlier killed a German soldier outside the United Nations headquarters in Kabul in November 2005. Sadie became the 25th canine recipient of the medal, which she received from Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra.

Military service

Sadie served in Bosnia, Iraq, and Afghanistan and is part of the 102 Military Working Dog Support Unit of the Royal Army Veterinary Corps based in Sennelager, Germany. [cite web|url=|title= Animal VC for Sadie, the heroine of Kabul]
