Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre

The Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre in New York's Central Park was originally built as a traditionally-constructed model schoolhouse of Baltic fir [ [http://www.centralparknyc.org/site/PageServer?pagename=virtualpark_thegreatlawn_swedishcottage Central Park Conservancy: Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre] ] for Sweden's exhibit at the 1876 Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia. Frederick Law Olmsted arranged for the Cottage to be moved to its permanent home near the West Drive in Central Park. At first simply a tool shed, then adapted as a restroom, it now hosts one of the few public marionette theatre companies in the country, founded in 1939 as a touring marionette theater. In 1973 the interior was remodeled to include a permanent stage. The Swedish Cottage is listed on the Historic House registry of New York City.
