Bruce Richard Robertson (born
April 27 ,1953 inVancouver, British Columbia ) is a former freestyle and butterfly swimmer fromCanada , who competed for his native country at two consecutiveSummer Olympics , starting in 1972 inMunich . There he won the silver medal in the 100m Butterfly, and bronze in the 4x100m Medley Relay, alongsideErik Fish , William Mahony, andRobert Kasting .A specialist in the butterfly stroke, his greatest achievement was winning the 100 m butterfly race at the
1973 World Aquatics Championships inBelgrade (1973) – the first world championship swimming performance by a Canadian in over 60 years. Robertson also swam on the third place 4x100m Medley Relay team there. At the1974 Commonwealth Games inNew Zealand he won two gold, two silver and two bronze medals. In1973 he was named male Athlete of the Year, and was honoured with the Order of Canada in1973 .References
