Bruce Robertson (swimmer)
Bruce Richard Robertson (born
April 27, 1953in Vancouver, British Columbia) is a former freestyle and butterfly swimmer from Canada, who competed for his native country at two consecutive Summer Olympics, starting in 1972 in Munich. There he won the silver medal in the 100m Butterfly, and bronze in the 4x100m Medley Relay, alongside Erik Fish, William Mahony, and Robert Kasting.
A specialist in the butterfly stroke, his greatest achievement was winning the 100 m butterfly race at the
1973 World Aquatics Championshipsin Belgrade(1973) – the first world championship swimming performance by a Canadian in over 60 years. Robertson also swam on the third place 4x100m Medley Relay team there. At the 1974 Commonwealth Gamesin New Zealandhe won two gold, two silver and two bronze medals. In 1973he was named male Athlete of the Year, and was honoured with the Order of Canada in 1973.
