List of political parties in Turkey

Political parties in Turkey lists political parties in Turkey. Turkey is parliamentary democracy with a multi-party system.

The parties

Major parties are defined as political parties that received more than 10% of the votes in the latest general election (22 July 2007) and/or represented in parliament. Minor Parties are defined as political parties that has fulfilled the requirements of the Supreme Electoral Council ("Yüksek Seçim Kurulu" in Turkish, abbreviated as YSK) and their names were listed in the ballots.

These are some of the parties that were dismantled because of their internal dynamics, mergers, inability to find electoral base or through governmental intervention, for instance following the coups.

Left Wing

* New Turkey Party (Yeni Türkiye Partisi, joined CHP)
* Revolutionary Workers and Peasants Party of Turkey (Türkiye İhtilâlci İşçi Köylü Partisi)
* Social Democratic Populist Party (Sosyal Demokrat Halkçı Parti, merged with CHP)

Liberal

* Liberal Republican Party (Serbest Cumhuriyet Fırkası, dissolved itself) (1929)

Conservative

* Justice Party (Adalet Partisi, AP)(1962) Closed on 12 September 1980
* Democratic Party (Demokrat Parti, DP) (1946-1961)
* Nation Party (Millet Partisi, MP) (1948-1953 and 1962-1977)
* Democratic Center Party (Demokratik Merkez Partisi, DMP) Founded on May 17, 1990, merged into DYP on September 14, 1991
* True Path Party (Doğru Yol Partisi), conservative (9.6 %) (1983), merged with Motherland Party into Democrat Party (Turkey, 2007) in 2007.

Religious

* National Salvation Party (Milli Selâmet Partisi) Closed 12 September 1980
* Republican Peasants and Nation Party (Cumhuriyetçi Köylü Millet Partisi), merger of two parties, replaced by MHP
* National Development Party (Milli Kalkınma Partisi)
* New Turkey Party (1960) Yeni Turkiye Partisi (1960),
* New Democracy Movement (Yeni Demokrasi Hareketi)
* Nationalist Task Party (Milliyetçi Çalışma Partisi), replaced by MHP

These are some of the parties that were banned through extraordinary courts or the Constitutional Court of Turkey.

Left-wing

* Workers Party of Turkey (Turkiye Işci Partisi (1961))
* United Communist Party of Turkey (Türkiye Birlesik Komünist Partisi)

Religious

* Progressive Republican Party (Terakkiperver Cumhuriyet Fırkası), banned at 3 June 1925
* National Order Party (Milli Nizam Partisi), banned at 20 May 1971
* Welfare Party (Refah Partisi), banned at 22 February 1998
* Virtue Party (Fazilet Partisi), banned at 22 June 2001

Alleged secessionist

* People's Democracy Party (Halkın Demokrasi Partisi)
