Neil Mitchell AO (born 21 November 1951) is an Australian radio announcer on Melbourne AM talk-back station 3AW. The son of a school teacher, he entered journalism at an early age straight after completing high school. Neil also currently writes an Opinion Column every Tuesday in the Melbourne Herald Sun Newspaper.

Radio career

A Melbourne talk back radio announcer, Neil Mitchell began his career as a journalist. He has had involvement in newspapers, radio and television. He was one of the youngest editors of a daily metropolitan newspaper, The Herald.

Neil was also a reporter, columnist and news executive at The Age for 16 years, including four years as sports editor. He has also worked for Time Magazine, and presented documentaries and his own talkback TV program on both the Nine and Ten networks which were both short-lived. He also worked on two programmes on the Seven Network and on Sky News.

Mitchell began his radio career in March 1987 on Melbourne station 3AW. His role was as a morning fill in host for Derryn Hinch (who still broadcasts on the station), although he was later confirmed as permanent host of the drivetime program in October.

Today, Mitchell hosts the morning shift (8:30-12:00) on 3AW. His show is seen as an outlet for politicians such as Victorian State Premier Ted Baillieu (who has a regular weekly segment on the show) to air their views and discuss issues.
