Frederick William von Hessenstein

Fredrik Vilhelm von Hessenstein (1735-1808), Swedish soldier and statesman, illegitimate son of king Frederick I and his mistress Hedvig Taube. Appointed Field Marshal in 1773, Privy Councillor in 1776, and a proficient Governor-General of Pomerania between 1776 and 1791.

According to unofficial stories, he was the father of the illegitimate daughter of Princess Sofia Albertina (Gustav III's sister), a baby girl named Sophia, born sometime during the year of 1786, a year before the princess was sent to Germany as Abbess of Quedlinburg.
