The Agra Canal is an important
Indian irrigationwork which starts from Gurgaonin Haryana. The Agra canal originates from Okhla barrage down stream of Nizamuddin bridge. [ [http://irrigation.up.nic.in/achievements.htm Agra Canal Modernization Project] ] , opened in 1874.
Canalreceives its water from the Yamuna Riverat Okhla, about 22 KM below in Delhi. The weir across the Yamunawas the first attempted in Upper Indiaupon a foundation of fine sand; it is about 800-yard long, and rises seven-feet above the summer level of the river.
Okhlathe canal follows the high land between the Khari-Nadi and the Yamunaand finally joins the Banganga river about nowrap|20 miles below Agra.
