Solvay is a Belgian chemical and pharmaceutical company. It was founded in
1863by Ernest Solvayto produce sodium carbonateby the solvay process. Since then the company has diversified to three major sectors of activity: pharmaceuticals, chemicalsand plastics.
In 2007, the Group’s consolidated sales amounted to EUR 9.6 billion generated by its three activity sectors: Chemicals, Plastics and Pharmaceuticals. Solvay (NYSE Euronext: SOLB.BE - Bloomberg: SOLB.BB - Reuters: SOLBt.BR) is listed on the NYSE Euronext in Brussels.
