Upper Peru ( _es. Alto Perú) was the region in the
Viceroyalty of Peruand, after 1776, the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Platacomprising the Governments of Potosí, La Paz, Cochabamba, Los Chiquitos, Moxos and Charcas (since renamed Sucre). It was governed by the Audiencia of Charcas.
Following independence, the country was renamed
Boliviain honour of Simón Bolívar.
