TRP proteins

TRP proteins
(= transient receptor potential proteins)
Family of proteins that may be the channels that are activated by depletion of intracellular calcium. Probably have six transmembrane regions (based on sequence analysis) and the limited sequence homology with voltage-gated calcium channel a 1 subunits. Human Trp3 is the homologue of Drosophila TRP and TRPL, proteins involved in light sensitive conductance in the eye. Mammalian Trp6 encodes an ion channel that mediates calcium entry stimulated by a Gq-coupled receptor. Vanilloid receptor-1 has some structural similarity.
