minisatellite

minisatellite
(= variable number tandem repeat; VNTR)
Class of highly repetitive satellite DNA, comprising variable (typically 10-20) repeats of short (eg. 64 bases) DNA sequences. The high level of polymorphism of such minisatellites make them very useful in genomic mapping.
