Enzymes of the EC Class 4 (see E classification) that catalyse the non-hydrolytic removal of a group from a substrate with the resulting formation of a double-bond; or the reverse reaction, in which case the enzyme is acting as a synthetase. Include decarboxylases, aldolases and dehydratases.
