L-type channels

L-type channels
A class of voltage-sensitive calcium channels. L-type channels are found in neurons, neuroendocrine cells, smooth, cardiac and striated muscle, are involved in neurotransmitter release at some synapses and inactivate relatively slowly. They are activated at membrane potentials more positive than -30mV. The long-lasting properties and possible role in long-term potentiation were the reason for them being designated L-type. They are insensitive to w -conotoxin but inhibited by dihydropyridines, benzodiazepines and phenylalkylamines.
