Ahesta Boro (PerB|آهسته برو, literally "walk slowly", figuratively "walk graciously") is a
musical compositionplayed to welcome the bride and groom’s entrance to the wedding hallin Persian weddings, specially in those of Tajiks. Usually the accompanied couple is walked slowly under the sanction of the Glorious Quranas the attending guests rise in honor of the holy book. This anthemis a very strong traditionof these marriage ceremoniesand is always done without exception. It is said that the spirit of the song brings blessingto the marriage.
The exact origin of this composition or assigning it to particular region of
Afghanistanhas been difficult but it may have stemmed from folkloric chantsof central Asian's Persians. This song was popularized by a Tajik singer, Sarban, who originally arranged the lyrics for it. Before this, usually pre-recorded, lone musicversion was played. After Sarban, many singers sang their own versions; however, none paralleled Sarban’s and his is also one that remains the most popular choice to this day although more than 40 years after its release.
