Ahesta Boro

Ahesta Boro

Ahesta Boro (PerB|آهسته برو, literally "walk slowly", figuratively "walk graciously") is a musical composition played to welcome the bride and groom’s entrance to the wedding hall in Persian weddings, specially in those of Tajiks. Usually the accompanied couple is walked slowly under the sanction of the Glorious Quran as the attending guests rise in honor of the holy book. This anthem is a very strong tradition of these marriage ceremonies and is always done without exception. It is said that the spirit of the song brings blessing to the marriage.

The exact origin of this composition or assigning it to particular region of Afghanistan has been difficult but it may have stemmed from folkloric chants of central Asian's Persians. This song was popularized by a Tajik singer, Sarban, who originally arranged the lyrics for it. Before this, usually pre-recorded, lone music version was played. After Sarban, many singers sang their own versions; however, none paralleled Sarban’s and his is also one that remains the most popular choice to this day although more than 40 years after its release.
