methyostyly

methyostyly
a derivation of hyostylic jaw suspension in that the hyomandibula still plays a role in jaw suspension, but in this case the original elements have been replaced by dermal bone, and the hyomandibular is a reduced element at the jaw joint, e.g. in bony fishes
